ABC's parent nonprofit, Appalachian Headwaters, also runs an extremely low cost summer camp for kids in our region. Camp Waldo is happy to welcome more than 100 campers this summer. Many of our partner beekeepers' children and grand children join us; in fact, our youngest partner beekeeper is also a camper!
Camp Waldo is one of the only camp beekeeping programs in the country. Beekeeping is a great way for kids to understand our local ecosystem. Learning about honey bees increases our campers' awareness of world-wide threats to pollinators such as climate change and deforestation. As campers learn about natural beekeeping, they become better environmental stewards. Check out some of the photos from Camp Waldo's beekeeping program.
