Donate a Nucleus Colony

Your gift will allow us to provide a new "nucleus" colony to a beekeeping partner. Nucs, or nucleus colonies, are small honey bee colonies that we use to start a new hive. It includes several frames of bee brood, comb, and a queen bee.

When you support an ABC partner, your gift boosts the partner’s income. A nuc can grow into a full hive over the course of the first year. A hive will produce approximately 40-60 pounds of honey for sale each year. A diligent beekeeper can also split his or her hives each year, meaning that your gift may grow into an entire apiary over the next several years.

It also helps the environment. Bee hives stimulate plant communities within a two-mile radius through pollination. And our beekeeping program helps partner beekeepers learn to interact on a personal level with our region’s unique ecology, building a stronger appreciation for natural processes and the environment.

Are you giving in honor of someone? When you donate a gift in honor of another person, we will send you a beautiful honor card after your donation is complete. This card is a great way to let your family and friends know about the impact of the gift you made in their name. All donations also come with a beautiful detailed card telling our story and a profile of a member beekeeper. 

All donations are tax deductible. We will send you a letter noting your donation for your records.
